Why use rolling correlation instead of a single value?

A single correlation value hides regime changes. Rolling windows show whether two assets are currently moving together, decoupling, or reverting toward their long-run relationship.

Which rolling window should I use?

Use 30d for current market regime, 90d for tactical allocation, and 1y or 3y for structural portfolio assumptions. Large gaps between short and long windows usually signal a regime transition.
