Optimism
Real-time OP perpetual funding rates across 13 major exchanges — Binance, Bybit, OKX, Deribit, Hyperliquid, Gate.io, Bitget, KuCoin, MEXC, HTX, BingX, CoinEx, and BitMEX.
The Optimism (OP) perpetual funding rate is a periodic payment exchanged between long and short holders of OP perpetual futures contracts, designed to keep the perpetual price anchored to the underlying spot price. When OP funding is positive, longs pay shorts — signalling bullish leveraged crowding. When negative, shorts pay longs — often during a capitulation or heavy hedging flow. Sharpe aggregates OP funding rates from 13 exchanges with each exchange's rate normalized to annualized APR (APR = rate × 8,760 / interval_hours) so you can directly compare 1-hour rates from Hyperliquid against 8-hour rates from Binance, Bybit, and OKX.
Optimism (OP) perpetual futures clear $100M to $300M OI on Binance, Bybit, OKX, and Bitget. OP funding mirrors ARB's structural short-crowded profile — large unlock schedule, no staking yield, limited value capture from Superchain. Baseline OP funding runs -0.01% to +0.005% per 8h. OP's Superchain thesis (Base, Worldchain, Mode, and other OP Stack L2s) creates unique funding event windows around Superchain member announcements. Coinbase Base's dominance within the Superchain creates indirect OP demand via revenue sharing agreements (activated via governance). OP token unlocks (Optimism Foundation, Core Contributors, Investors) continue through 2026. OP retroactive public goods funding (RPGF) rounds add periodic event windows.
OP funding moves largely in lockstep with ARB — when they diverge, Superchain-specific news (Base, Worldchain growth) or sequencer revenue governance is active. OP funding above 0.03% per 8h requires either major Superchain milestone (Worldchain mainnet, new OP Stack chain launch) or broad L2 rotation. Monthly OP unlocks create predictable 72h short pressure. Base's revenue share to OP governance has been the most important structural funding catalyst — unlock relief cycles coincide with Base growth milestones. Binance OP funding is benchmark; Bybit tends to run 3-5 bps higher during retail narrative cycles.
Use the OP funding rate as three separate signals. First, as a sentiment indicator: persistent 8-hour rates above 0.03% (~33% APR) often precede Optimism corrections as leveraged longs crowd. Second, as a carry opportunity: hold long spot + short perp to collect the funding payment while staying delta-neutral — use Sharpe's arbitrage calculator to size the trade. Third, as a cross-exchange divergence signal: when Binance OP funding diverges meaningfully from OKX or Hyperliquid, the positioning asymmetry often precedes a volatility expansion. Sharpe's funding rate terminal and leaderboard surface these divergences automatically.
